Im Unterschied zum Fels haben Steine keinen festen Kontakt mehr zu der Gesteinseinheit, der sie ursprünglich angehört haben, unabhängig davon, ob sie noch am originalen Platz stehen (in situ, gewachsenes Gestein, Anstehendes) oder nicht (disloziert).
